Actor Alec Baldwin was involved in a fatal accident while shooting the movie “Rust”. On one recording he ended up shooting a gun that contained a real bullet and killed director of photography Halyna Hutchins, 42, and wounded director Joel Souza, 48.
According to information from those who witnessed the scene and a request for a search and seizure, the revolver was delivered by an assistant director who advised the actor that the weapon was safe.

Both the clothing that Baldwin wore and was stained with blood and the weapon used were taken as evidence, as well as ammunition and other scenographic weapons used in the recording.
The question remains as to who put the real bullet inside the revolver. The workers’ union in the entertainment industry said in a statement that none of its members were responsible for overseeing the set’s equipment.
Suspicions, however, fall on Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, head gunsmith of the recordings and responsible for leading the scenographic weapons team on the set of “Rust”. She is the daughter of one of the most famous snipers in the US, Thell Reed. According to investigations, Baldwin will not be held responsible for the death for having received someone else’s loaded gun.
An identical case happened in the filming of the movie “The Crow” in 1993, when Brando Lee ended up dying too after being hit by an actual gunshot. Investigators at the time chose not to file any criminal charges.
Actress Frances Fisher, who also stars in the film, said the safety recommendations for the use of weapons in the filming were followed. Baldwin was interrogated after the accident but was not arrested.
However, according to the website Variety, the film set was chaotic and unsafe and that even this would not have been the first accident with a gun. The publication also says that several employees had left Rust’s recordings because they felt unsafe.
The work’s production team said that everyone is devastated by the event and stopped recording indefinitely.
“There are no words to express my shock and sadness at the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, our deeply admired wife, mother and colleague. I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to resolve how this tragedy occurred and am in contact with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, her son and for everyone who knew and loved Halyna,” Baldwin said on Twitter.
