Duda’s men get into a ‘final four’ of the Copa del Rey for the first time after coming back in an epic way from a duel they lost 2-0
Futsal in Cartagena is synonymous with disappointments. Without titles despite huge projects and with many more failures than joys, it is rare that the fan of the sport of 40×20 from Cartagena has been able to smile. This time, the Jimbee made it the hardest yet to slam the historic bad fairies.
The first half was much less showy than the one seen last Saturday and the defenses almost always prevailed over the attacks, with Raúl Jerez and Jesús Herrero emerging as stars for their respective teams.
Jimbee didn’t start badly, he came out with personality on the Jorge Garbajosa track from Torrejón de Ardoz, where he usually has bad results. However, the locals struck with their first shot on goal. Fits passed Bebe with ease and scored the first goal with a superlative strike to the top corner.
Pablo Ramírez was able to equalize after a superlative chest control with which he beat Jesús Herrero, but he missed the simplest thing and the ball went to the post. The iron defenses prevented very clear chances. A controversial action with a second left to go in the first half, when Waltinho called for a ten-meter shot, ended the initial 20 minutes. It seemed missing.
Those of Duda also went well in the second half, but they conceded the second. And, when all seemed lost, the Jimbee believed. Jesús Izquierdo took advantage of a mistake by Herrero to make it 2-1, with a very complicated definition. On the next play, the Murcian shot at the post. The tables had turned.
A heart attack ending
The melon growers tied with an act of faith from ‘pichichi’ Luçao. He kept a ball after a crash and took a precise left-footed shot to the base of the interista goal. The delirium was even greater when, with four minutes to go, the Brazilian unleashed a right-footed shot that slipped through the local squad and put Jimbee ahead.
Pato’s goalkeeper-player put up and threatened those from Cartagena, who had to defend and suffer until the end to win. Drahovsky and Martel intimidated Duda’s men, but Raúl Jerez, once again a savior, responded perfectly and the meloneros celebrated their place in the ‘final four’. Antequera awaits April 1st and Jimbee is two games away from definitively reinventing the history of futsal in Cartagena.
