The Sports and Fitness Center and the Australia Pavilion at Expo 2020 received the visit of Fatima Samoura, Secretary-General of the International Football Association “FIFA”, in the presence of Najeeb Al-Ali, Executive Director of the “Expo Bureau”, Justin McGowan, Commissioner-General of the Australian Pavilion, and Imran Al Jasmi, Events Officer in the Majlis Dubai Sports, along with the French star Yuri Djorkaev, advisor to “FIFA” and the players of the Australian Olympic team.
Fatima Samoura presented Najib Al-Ali with a ball signed by the Secretary-General of FIFA and the French star, Yuri Djorkaev, advisor to FIFA.
Samora expressed her happiness at visiting “Expo 2020” and the Australian Pavilion, and said: “I am happy to be here; Because we all represent the most popular sport around the world which is football.”
During the visit, the FIFA Secretary-General wished success for the Australian Olympic team in its upcoming participation, and for Australia in hosting the FIFA tournaments, and added, “We look forward to meeting you again in July 2023, when Australia and New Zealand host the ninth edition of the Women’s World Cup. Achieving the expected championship is the required and wonderful success.”
The Sports and Fitness Center and the Australia Pavilion at Expo 2020 are witnessing a continuous flow of dozens of visitors daily, as the Australian Olympic team players participated in a part of the training on the sidelines of the team’s visit to the Australia Pavilion.
The Australian national team is preparing for the AFC U-23 Cup finals in Uzbekistan, where it will play only two matches in the qualifiers against Indonesia, hosts of Group G, after China and Brunei announced the withdrawal, respectively.
42 teams will participate in the qualifiers, competing from 23 to October 2021, in order to obtain 15 seats in the finals, to join Uzbekistan, host of the fifth edition of the tournament, which will be held for the first time in the Central Asian region.
