60 beds will be offered to serve patients 24 hours a day; Federal District had a 920% increase in cases this year
The Field Hospital set up this weekend in the Federal District begins treating patients with dengue symptoms this Monday (January 5, 2024). 60 beds will be offered to serve patients 24 hours a day. The unit has two hydration rooms, one for adults and one for children, as well as a laboratory for collection and tests to diagnose the disease.
The FAB (Brazilian Air Force) Field Hospital was set up in Ceilândia, an administrative region of the DF that is 30 km from Esplanada dos Ministérios. The place is the most populous in the federative unit and has the largest number of dengue cases recorded so far.
“Our objective is to relieve UPAs [Unidades de Pronto-Atendimento] region, given that today the Federal District accounts for around 20% of dengue cases in the country”, highlighted the Air Force Commander, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno.
The emergency care unit is next to UPA Ceilândia and Hospital Cidade do Sol, in Special Area D, Via P1 Norte. In total, 29 military health professionals, including doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians, will work in the unit. The site must operate for 45 days.
EXPLOSION OF CASES
The population of DF has suffered from the 920% increase in dengue cases this year compared to last year. There were 29,500 cases of dengue confirmed in the capital in 2024, with more than 7,000 in Ceilândia. Six people have already died from the disease in the Federal District.
The situation led the DF government to declare a state of emergency on January 25, asking for support from the federal government. In total, 247 soldiers were trained to reinforce the fight against the disease with home visits.
