The queen of electric cars in Europe is Fiat 500. The battery-powered version of the iconic Italian model conquers market leadership among EVs in the Old Continent in April, also climbing in the total calculation of the first quarter of 2022 in which it comes in third place behind only Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. The result achieved by the Cinquino on tap confirms the success of this model which since its commercial debut has been able to place itself at the top of the reference market in Italy. Now the result has also been achieved in Europe thanks to the 5,524 units sold and a growth of 69% compared to the same month of 2021 according to data provided by Jato Dynamics.
Carlos Tavares can therefore smile, also looking at the general classification in April that he sees behind the Fiat 500 the Peugeot 208 battery-powered with 3,730 units registered. On the third step of the podium is the Skoda Enyaq, followed by the Dacia Spring. The rest of the ranking sees the Kia Niro, Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Kona, Renault Zoe, Kia Ev6 and BMW i3. According to data provided by Jato Dyniamics, registrations of electric cars are growing, with + 13% to 83,000 cars sold while plug-in hybrids are falling. This generated a 1.4% contraction in the BEV and PHEV market, with 154,219 units registered.
The electric Fiat 500 also contributes to the growth of the market share of Stellantis EVs which in April overtakes Volkswagen with a 20% share. The Wolfsburg giant slowed down the production stops recorded in the various plants of the group which caused a decrease in volumes of 37%. The Hyundai / Kia tandem is on the rise, with 61% growth. However, VW kept pace in the four-month period, with a share of 18.2% against the 15.7% of the group led by Carlos Tavares. In third place instead goes Tesla with 15% (1.7% the general share).
