The final phase of the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars program got underway today in Maranello. This is the second edition of the initiative wanted by the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission – in collaboration with the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) and Deborah Mayer’s Iron Dames – which aims to promote female motoring and support the most talented girls. between the ages of 12 and 16 on their way to a professional racing career.
Over the next five days, four young pilots will be involved in a very intense program developed by FDA experts. For each of them the goal is clear: to convince the Maranello technicians and join Maya Weug in the Maranello Academy, thus becoming the second driver in history to wear the colors of Ferrari.
The selection
The four girls passed several selection stages that saw them face physical tests and face driving on the track first with karts and then with the Formula 4 cars of the Winfield school in Le Castellet. To choose them, the representatives of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, led by the former rally champion Michéle Mouton, the driving instructors of the Paul Ricard and the FDA experts to whom Maya Weug herself was aggregated.
The finalists
The Russian Victoria Blokhina, 14, the Spanish Clarissa Dervic and Laura Camps Torras, respectively 15 and 16, and the Brazilian Julia Ayoub, also 16, will play for the possibility of accessing the Academy. For Julia, this is a return since she had already been selected in the first edition that saw Maya Weug as the winner.
The girl of Spanish nationality but born of a Belgian mother and a Dutch father will be the protagonist of the days on the track – Friday and Saturday – when she will be the reference point for the competitors, also turning in Fiorano at the wheel of the Formula 4 Tatuus equipped with identical Pirelli tires. to those used in the Italian league.
Program
As always happens in all the evaluation camps set up by the FDA, in Maranello the girls will be the protagonists of a full immersion in the world of Ferrari, its values and its history. In the Academy they will face theory lessons, physical tests, aptitude tests, communication activities and, before the two days on the track at Fiorano, also some driving sessions on the simulator.
The choice
The camp in Ferrari will end on Saturday afternoon: the girls will then leave Maranello and, in the following days, the experts will meet to analyze in detail all the data collected, both on the track and in the various off-track activities. The decisive choice will then be made and it will be defined whether there will be a girl deserving to enter the Ferrari Driver Academy.
