The 2021 Formula 1 season ends with the twenty-second round. Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow is third in the Constructors’ classification, with a tally of 38.5 points to defend against McLaren, while Charles Leclerc in the last race he managed to overtake Lando Norris in the race for fifth place among the drivers. Here the fight is still very open, because between the Monegasque and the British there are just four points of difference, but behind them – just 4.5 points behind Norris and 8.5 from Charles – there is a Carlos Sainz strong of a streak of fourteen consecutive placings in the top ten, second only to Max Verstappen. The Scuderia faces the last race of the season with a smile, but no less determinedly for this. As usual, the Yas Marina circuit will host the 13th edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, renewed in some parts to increase its spectacularity.
The track. The organizers intervened in three points of the track. At the end of the first sector it was eliminated the slow variant that was located at the end of the straight which led to the first hairpin. The configuration will see the cars in full straight up to the hairpin, which has become wider and should offer more overtaking opportunities. The second modification, more substantial, concerns the variant at the end of the second long straight. The entire left-right-left complex of the chicane with the subsequent 90-degree bend to the left in counter-slope has been replaced by a more open and flowing 180-degree bend, slightly elevated. Also in this case there may be more lines to interpret the curve and this should favor overtaking. Changes were also introduced in the final part. In fact, the lap time is expected to be significantly lower also due to the modification of the radius in the right-angled corners of the third sector, now more open like the penultimate one.
Program. The race will start at sunset and the sessions, as often in the races held in the Middle East, will be moved to the second part of the day. The first free practice session will be on Friday at 1.30 pm local time (10.30 am Italian time) while the second will be staged at 5 pm (2.00 pm Italian time). Saturday the last hour to work on the development of the cars will be at 14 (11 Italian) in preparation for the qualifying scheduled for 17 (14 Italian). The thirteenth Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will start at 17 local time (14 Italian).
