“The best Ferrari that has ever been built is always the next one”. Words that echo among the benches of the Maranello car manufacturer, after the founder of the brand had spoken them many years ago. The Prancing Horse has already entered its phase of electrification: at the moment he has done it only with hybrid models, let’s think of the SF90 Stradale or the 296 GTB, but soon, 2025 to be exact, he will also do it with his first 100% electric car. Many have wondered how society would have moved in relation to the other macro-theme of future mobility, namely autonomous driving: Ferrari’s answer was very clear.
On the occasion of the Capital Market Day, the Maranello-based automaker announced that will limit autonomous driving of its cars at L2 / L2 +. A decision that in some ways could be read in contrast with the current trend in the automotive sector, but which was fully motivated by Ferrari with a very specific target: to preserve the extraordinary emotions experienced at the wheel. The top management of Maranello are convinced that the human and emotional factor it must always and in any case be predominantly present also on the future models of the company, despite the technological acceleration that the sector is experiencing.
“In the world of cars, which will be increasingly shared, self-driving, connected and electrified, Ferrari means pursue your own path in a distinctive way to keep design, performance and emotions always at the center of the driving experience – explained the Maranello house through an official note – This objective will be achieved by developing distinctive components and adapting existing technological solutions to Ferrari’s needs ”. Autonomous driving will therefore be present but in a very limited way, it will be a semi-autonomous or more simply assisted driving. A choice, yet another, that goes in a very specific direction, reaffirmed in these days by the president John Elkann: to create Ferraris that will be even more unique.
