Fernando Llanos, an eminent figure in journalism, has left an indelible mark in the field of communication with his professional legacy. With a career spanning decades, Llanos has been a pillar in journalism, known for his unwavering ethics, his commitment to the truth and his ability to tell stories that deeply connect with audiences. His work has addressed a diverse range of topics, from politics to social issues. In an interview with La República, Fernando Llanos talks about his television experience, his departure from América TV and Canal N, and what is coming for him. Additionally, he talks about his family and reveals what his hobbies and weaknesses are.
—Your departure from América and Canal N surprised your followers. How are you? How do you feel?
—It surprised me too, but I am comforted, I am calm, pleasantly impressed by the response of the public who watched us for so many years. I'm fine and ready to take on new projects.
—Did it hurt you to leave America? It was more than 15 years…
—Yes, of course, it hurts because I generated quite close ties with my colleagues. You create a team that then becomes like small families. It hurts me more to leave the daily coexistence with so many good people on the channel.
—Were you surprised by the notice that you were no longer continuing?
—Yes, I didn't expect it. He believed that the work he had done was responsible, dedicated, correct enough, and that we had a gained audience, but it was a very surprising thing and it happened.
—On social networks, a video was mentioned in which you debated the AFP with an advisor. Do you think it was because of that?
-Don't know. They haven't told me that it was for that reason. I don't know, I couldn't assume that's it. I have my own feelings, but I'm going to keep them to myself, because I have no proof of what you're telling me.
—I was checking your Instagram and you responded particularly to the comment of a user who also regretted your departure from América and Canal N. You told him: “Everything falls under your own weight.” What were you referring to?
—I don't remember (the comment), but I think people are intelligent enough to know what things they see and what things they don't see. In the end, I didn't have the opportunity to say goodbye on screen. Many people asked me what had happened to me and Katia Cruz, who was my partner. My object with my publication was to tell people that I did not work with America and to Channel N, and show you a little of the work we had done during this time, but I have not mentioned the company, because it did not seem important to me to qualify or evaluate the decisions made by the company. For me, the important thing was to tell the public that has followed us that I no longer work in that company, not by my decision, obviously, and that I hope to see them soon.
In life, I am a believer that everything you do and every action you perform has value and that in the end the good and bad things you do fall under their own weight, everything falls under its own weight, you don't need to push them to make them happen. perform.
—Do you feel like you missed doing something in América or Canal N?
—I feel that professionally I have given myself 100% in all the jobs I have been in. At Panamericana, for example, Genaro did not pay us and I was not absent, I went to work every day with the same predisposition. Thank God, my resume on this channel says that I have not missed a day in 15 years. I didn't miss a newscast either on Sunday or when I did newscasts on Canal N. I had super complicated coverage, in different conditions and scenarios, and I always did it with the best predisposition. I don't think I have a single pending account. I have given the full extent of my capabilities and possibilities, and, probably, that is why the public reacted when I made the statement that I was no longer in this company.
—Your case seems similar to that of Juliana Oxenford, and then she started her YouTube channel. Could you also open your channel, some written media or TV channel?
—I have the greatest respect for Juliana because I have also known her for a thousand years, we agreed at the beginning in Panamericana. I have offers, some for jobs and others for digital ventures. I'm considering to see what I'll do. Finally, if it is necessary to work, I have two hands, two feet, and I am healthy enough to work on whatever comes. I'm not afraid to work. And whatever I have to do I will try to do it with the same passion, commitment and with the same responsibility that I did until today. I have been working for 29 continuous years, only in four media. I don't lack the desire to work, if I have to sell sneakers again, I have no problem doing it. I don't have the desire to be a TV star, it will simply be what God wants, I don't make a big deal out of it.
—Changing the tone of the interview, do you have any hobbies?
—As a hobby, I like video games and listening to music, but I have a weakness: I am a compulsive bargain shopper. Sometimes I go to the market and it gets out of hand. I can buy meat, oil, watches, sneakers, whatever is on sale. I have hundreds of Star Wars Marvel comic figures. I collect Snoopy dolls, I have Mario Bros., from Transformers.
—Would you like to get into acting or participate in an entertainment problem like 'The Great Chef'?
—I don't put a lock on anything. Today I am unemployed and every job opportunity that comes my way from now on I will value it and see if I take it. Of course 'The Great Chef' is a quite entertaining program. Now I watch it more, because I have much more time, and it is a television proposal that has its audience and offers you new television alternatives. Not everything has to be the formats we have had these years, it is good to innovate. Whatever is presented from now on, as I have freedom of action, I will evaluate it and make a decision if they call me, I will not close the doors.
—Finally, what does family and their support mean to you at this time?
—My family is unconditional. My wife, my children, I have a brother who lives abroad (abroad), but he is very attentive, my grandmother, my mother has already passed away, but my grandmother, my mother's mother, is the extension of my mother, my father also. They are always there. My family is super important to me. I am quite domestic, a homebody, I don't go out much. I try to spend quality time with them. Sometimes we go to the beach or we are at home, but we always try to do things together. My family has also been fundamental during this time. We are a single fist.
-Believe in God?
—I believe in God and the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. My mother told us a phrase: “Holy Trinity, nothing bad will happen.”
