The sprinter, who is making his team debut, prevailed in the best way and gives Movistar their first victory in the competition.
Fernando Gaviria achieved his 50th victory in his sports career, in a competition he knows very well, as he adjusted his eighth victory in the event.
“It was a nice victory. I thank the team. A teammate told me that he was dead, that he couldn’t take it anymore, but they did their best,” said Gaviria.
He added: “There were difficult moments on the climb, but I enjoyed the stage. The heat is exhausting.
One of the figures of the day was Egan Bernalwho in a sensational performance jumped from the group and caught up with the escapees, who were more than two minutes behind the main group.
Bernal, who a year ago was fighting for his life after a terrible accident, appeared and showed that he is in good condition.
However, the intention of the Colombian and the rest of the escapees did not bear fruit and they were hit.
The packing teams, once again, ruined the objective of the fugitives, so the fraction was defined as mass packing.
