The Argentine president focused on social issues and cited the dispute with the United Kingdom over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.
the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernandezspoke this Tuesday (20.Sep.2022) at the General Assembly of UN (United Nations Organization). The Argentine leader focused on social issues and thanked the “solidarity” that the country received because of the attack against the vice president Cristina Kirchner.
Fernández said the attack affected the “public tranquility” and tried to change the order established with the end of the dictatorship in 1983. “We restored democracy and started a long historical cycle in which different political forces alternated in government”he said.
Fernández spoke for 17 minutes and 45 seconds. The Argentine president said that statements “extremists and violent” increased with the “discontent generated by the pandemic” and “found fertile ground to sow anti-political sentiment”.
“Silence in the face of such evidence can lead us to put the rule of law itself in crisis”, he said. Fernández also asked for a “strong rejection of those who promote division of communities”.
The Argentine president also said that the pandemic has exposed global inequality. “Is it fair that the wealth of just 10 men represents more than the income of 40% of the world’s population? Is it ethical that the pandemic claimed 4 times more lives in the poorest countries than in the rich ones?”he asked.
As a resolution, Fernández said it was necessary “abandoning economic practices that the developed world forces the developing world to obey”. He stated that the permanence of the system will increase poverty and marginalization.
The Argentine leader also highlighted issues that impact Argentina. The following are some of the main statements:

The Argentine president asked “renovation” the efforts of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, for the UK to comply with General Assembly Resolution 37/49. THE guideline asks the governments of the countries negotiation of the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.
“The territories have been illegally occupied by the British army for almost 190 years. This provides a sense of insecurity to a historically peaceful region. My country [Argentina] remains willing to negotiate and finally end this sovereignty dispute.”said Fernández.
