The king and queen continue their state trip to Germany
King Felipe VI has argued that the current energy crisis due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine may ultimately be an opportunity and serve as an “incentive” to accelerate steps towards a sustainable economy.
He did so while opening the 10th Spanish-German Forum in Berlin together with the German president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, where he took the opportunity to recognize the current “stage of great uncertainty” that we are going through as a result of the war “after the dark times of the Covid-19». Reason why the monarch has alluded to issues such as inflation, the sharp increase in energy and food costs.
At that time, Felipe VI took advantage of the occasion to ensure that “every challenge deserves an opportunity.” And in the current crisis that is equivalent, according to the monarch, to “accelerating the steps towards a sustainable economy, energy saving and the use of new technologies to improve efficiency.” “Spanish companies have a lot to contribute in all these fields,” he pointed out.
The King has also placed special emphasis on “an issue as decisive in the medium and long-term future as hydrogen, which could be an important part of the solution to the current energy crisis.” In his opinion, it is an issue in which “cooperation between Spain and Germany can give very good results, with positive consequences for the rest of the EU”.
