The Galician leader does not understand that the Government waits two weeks to lower taxes when “the Spanish do not make it to the end of the month”
He will not take the helm of the PP until April 1, but Alberto Núñez Feijóo is already acting as the de facto leader of the opposition. And as such, he lashed out this Wednesday harshly at the chief executive, Pedro Sánchez, for his “pastism” in not undertaking an urgent tax reform in the face of the serious economic situation and the rise in prices of basic products. “The Spaniards do not make ends meet,” he warned at an event in Santiago.
The still president of the Xunta does not understand that while other countries such as France or Ireland have already adopted measures to contain prices, the Government postpones the decision pending a European response. “We cannot wait – he lamented – for all the problems to be solved in Brussels”.
As he did this Monday, Feijóo urged Sánchez to take action as soon as possible. Moreover, he believes that after the declaration of La Palma, agreed by all the regional presidents and the Government, he should have already done so. Citizens, he warned, cannot wait “two or three weeks” for the government to decide to lower electricity and fuel taxes, because “the economic situation is critical and the social situation is serious.”
The Galician baron is willing to reach agreements with the Government as long as they are good for Spain and he believes that a pact for recovery can be. But the popular are not willing to give Sánchez a blank check and demand an immediate reduction in taxes on gas, electricity and hydrocarbons. They also ask to reduce the bureaucratic and political public spending of the Administration “to cover the holes that we are beginning to have in public accounts.”
Feijóo will continue his regional tour this Thursday to present his project to members in Asturias and Cantabria. On Friday he will make a stop along the way to attend the funeral in Marín in memory of the victims of the sinking of the fishing boat Villa de Pitanxo as president of the Xunta. A position that he will combine until he is elected president of the PP. He will then stop presiding over the party of Galicia and there will be an orderly succession. “It is better to give up than to be resigned,” he assured yesterday before the Galician militants, alluding to the forced departure of Pablo Casado.
The PP will put the polls on Monday so that the affiliates elect Feijóo despite being the only candidate
The militants of the PP will endorse Alberto Núñez Feijóo on Monday at the polls. Everything, despite being the only candidate who aspires to the presidency in the primaries of the XX Extraordinary National Congress of Seville. «Alberto Núñez Feijóo will be voted for by the PP affiliates on March 21 at the polls. I ask all the militants who have not yet done so to register in the process to vote”, wrote the president of the Organizing Committee of the Congress, Esteban González Pons.
From the PP they have communicated that although their statutes “provide for the possibility that, with a single candidacy, the vote of the affiliates will not be necessary and it will be the compromisarios who choose it in Congress”, Feijóo has asked the committee that “the registered affiliates can participate in the process of electing the new president.
Members are called to the polls next Monday, but only those who have previously registered will be able to vote, a term that ended this Wednesday. Regardless of the registration, only those assigned up to date with the payment of party fees may participate in the vote.
TO @FeijooGalicia PP members will vote for him on March 21 at the polls. I ask all the militants who have not yet done so to register now in the process to vote.
