The popular leader will try to make himself visible in the State Debate on the Nation despite the fact that as a senator he will not be able to intervene
Alberto Núñez-Feijóo took advantage this morning of his first appearance in the Congress of Deputies since he was elected president of the PP in April to delve into the crisis generated in the Government in the face of the growing division between PSOE and United We Can.
The popular leader, who presided over the meeting of the leadership of the parliamentary groups of the Lower House and the Senate as a prelude to the state debate on the nation that will be held on July 12, 13 and 14, demanded that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “correct the 2022 budgets”, which he considers to be “out of date” in the current economic situation. Feijóo recalled in this regard that the economic growth included in these accounts was 7% -now it has been reduced to 4%-, while inflation has shot up to 10.2%, when the Executive placed it at 1.6 %.
The leader of the PP harangued his people to continue giving the economic battle to the Government and clarified some of the axes in which the popular ones will influence said debate, which has not been held for six years and in which Feijóo himself will be present – he will occupy the seat in which until recently the popular former president Pablo Casado sat – despite the fact that he will not be able to question Sánchez as he is not a deputy. His condition as a senator, on his part, does not allow it either. Thus, the general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, will be in charge of standing up to the president of the Executive.
During his speech, which was tough both in substance and in form, Feijóo went further and urged the Executive to prepare “the budgets for the year 2023 right now.” “If the 2022 one no longer works, it would be dramatic not to approve the 2023 one,” said the former Galician president after asserting that the new accounts “must be focused on the needs of families, and not on the radical theses of their government partners ». A message that comes after the refusal of the United We Can ministers to support the increase in defense spending committed at the recent NATO Summit, which has widened the existing gap in the coalition.
Feijóo also warned about the grim economic outlook that is coming and compared it to the economic crisis of 2007, during the second stage of the also socialist José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in Moncloa. “The situation is very complex. We are no longer talking about symptoms, but about clear facts », he asserted.
Although during this time, Feijóo pointed out, there has been an indicator that has grown: the collection of taxes between January and May, which has made the State enter, as a result of inflation, 15,600 million euros more than expected. Feijóo made the government ugly that it now refuses to return said excess collection to families, the self-employed and companies. He also took the opportunity to charge against “the most expensive, unsupportive and extensive executive spending of democracy.”
In this sense, the president of the PP reproached that the Executive’s response to adversity consists of “redoubling the ideological war”, alluding to the Law of Democratic Memory and the pact reached with EH Bildu -whose members “still cheer that regime of the terror”, recalled Feijóo–, to carry out this rule.
