Alberto Núñez Feijóo has expressed himself in clinical terms to explain the vital crisis that the Popular Party faced during the fight between its still leader, Pablo Casado, and the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The PP, has explained during an interview in Public mirrorfrom Antena 3, suffered a “bleeding” of resignations of militants throughout Spain of such caliber that it placed the party in “a critical situation” for its own subsistence. Without abandoning the metaphor, the Galician leader added: “And when the patient enters a critical situation, either we stabilize him or we lose him, and that is why we went to stabilize him.” For this reason, he has stated that the therapy applied by the PP barons, with him at the head, has been “an exercise in self-protection” to prevent the party from collapsing.
Feijóo, in one of his first television interviews after his announced leap into national politics, has synthesized the PP crisis right at the end, in the last question. In his opinion, until the day of the demonstration in favor of Ayuso before the PP headquarters in Madrid, the entire party was suffering “enormous tension” that led to “a refusal, in quotes, of supporters, voters and officials” against the mother house of formation.
This led to the launch within the party “an exercise of self-protection” in order to stop a massive flight of militants, sympathizers and voters that, he said, was taking place at that time. “The messages, the WhatsApp to the headquarters and the resignations of affiliations were constant and continuous, not only in Madrid, but also in many autonomous communities. And in the face of this hemorrhage, when the patient enters a critical situation, we either lose him or stabilize him, and what we have done is stabilize the PP”. The probable next president of the PP is convinced that without this reaction the reaction of the bases, and not of the leadership, would not have reached the degree of “virulence and forcefulness” reached over the weekend “the crisis would have lasted plus”.
Feijóo, in any case, has not seen anything illegal in the actions of Ayuso and his Government nor does he believe that the president of the Community of Madrid has asked the party to serve him the heads of Pablo Casado and Teodoro García Egea (already former secretary general of the PP), the two pointed out by the generation, management and end of the crisis that has shocked the party of the Spanish conservatives.
In his opinion, the whole matter of Ayuso’s brother’s contract with his sister’s government “will be clarified” because “there is nothing illegal (…) A regional president neither signs contracts nor has a decision on suppliers.” The Galician president believes that the cases of the contract, that of the alleged internal espionage and that of the internal fight have already “healed”.

The one who will be the next leader of the PP from the April congress (“if everything continues as it seems”, he told Susana Griso) did not want to comment on the pacts with Vox or on the negotiations with this ultra formation of Alfonso Fernando Fernández Mañueco to try to form a government in Castilla y León. He also has not wanted to assess the polls, such as the one in EL PAÍS today, which confirms the sustained advance of Vox, already about to catch up with the PP in voting intention.
