Federico Delbonis lost against the Spanish Pablo Carreño Busta 7-6 (2) and 6-3 and said goodbye to the ATP 500 in Hamburg, Germany, in the semifinals.
The Azulean Delbonis, located in 48th place in the world ranking, fell to Carreño Busta, 13th in the world and second favorite, in one hour and 55 minutes of play and thus could not reach the final of the German tournament on brick dust, with prizes of 1,168,220 euros.
Delbonis, who had beaten Carreño Busta this year in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid, had just raised three match points and beat Frenchman Benoit Paire 4-6, 7-6 (9) and 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
The 30-year-old Azuleño is also in a very good season, in which last Friday equaled Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas as the tennis player with the most wins on brick dust this year (22). ‘Delbo’ got off the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will begin next Friday, to prioritize the ATP circuit.
Carreño Busta will play the final against Serbian Filip Krajinovic, who eliminated Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals and today beat his compatriot Laslo Djere 6-4 and 6-2 in the other semifinal.
