Celebration has been held in São Paulo since 1918 and is part of the city’s official calendar of events
In a final decision, the Education and Culture Commission (CE) approved on Tuesday (May 7, 2024) a project that recognizes the Festival of São Vitus as a manifestation of national culture.
O Bill No. 1,945/2022from the Chamber of Deputies, received a favorable opinion from senator Marcos Pontes (PL-SP) and now goes to presidential sanction.
The Feast of Saint Vitus celebrates Italian culture brought by migrants to Brazil. It has been held annually in the months of June and July in the Brás neighborhood, in São Paulo, since 1918, and is part of the city’s official calendar of events.
According to the rapporteur, the party is an opportunity to get in touch with Italian culture through gastronomy, music and dance. He also cited the economic importance of this celebration.
“In addition to being a culturally enriching event, the Festa de São Vito also has an important economic impact on the region, boosting local tourism and supporting businesses and traders locations”, said Pontes.
