During the first days of war between Ukraine and Russia It was learned that former Canadian soldier Wali, one of the most famous and feared snipers in the world, voluntarily joined the Ukrainian army to support the defense of that country.
Wali, who has kept his name confidential for security reasons, is 40 years old and a retired former member of the Royal Regiment of the Canadian Army.

The man has been several weeks fighting Russian troops in kyiv, the capital of Ukraine and one of the cities most besieged by Russiaafter leaving his wife and newborn son in Canada.
Although there were recently some rumors that pointed to his death, fortunately, Wally is alive. “I don’t have a single scratch,” he confirmed. in the last hours to the Canadian television network CBC.
Even those closest to Wali, such as his wife, father, friends and former army comrades, had not heard from him for several days and were still trying to communicate with him, but communication today is difficult in Ukraine, especially for those directly facing war.

Wali told the media outlet that when he was able to use his cell phone, after several days, he received an avalanche of notifications and calls. In addition, he learned of the rumors of his death, so he wanted to deny the news and show through a video call that he is fine.
Rumors about his death began after the Russian portal ‘VKontakte’, also known as ‘VK’, stated that the Canadian sniper had been killed by the Russian army in the city of Mariupolwhich has been taken over by Russian troops.
“I have never seen Mariupol in my life. […] I don’t understand why they’re doing this because it’s so amateurish,” Wali told CBC.

In addition, in said interview, Wali took the opportunity to deny the news for which he became famous a few weeks ago, assuring that “he is not the most lethal sniper in the world”adding: “I’m a good sniper. Nothing less, nothing more.”
He also claimed that he has no record (Wali was said to hold the world record for the longest distance kill).
Finally, Wali narrated that he has witnessed in recent weeks the ferocious and indiscriminate Russian attack on Ukraine. “They just shoot everywhere. They use a lot of artillery, rifles and shelling. I think I got hundreds of shells in the last few days,” he told CBC.
