FEAR of living in Zacatecas and Fresnillo grows: they have the highest perception of INSECURITY according to INEGI

He National Institute of Statistic and Geography (INEGI) shared the results of the National Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU) corresponding to the First quarter of 2024 in which it highlights that Fresnillo and Zacatecas continue to have the highest perception of insecurity.

This, despite the figures shared by the State Government on the decrease in homicides and their move to the states with a lower level in the national crime index, shared by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.

Like every quarter, the INEGI carried out the ENSU in the main cities of the country, highlighting that in March 2024, 61.0% of the population aged 18 and over considered it unsafe to live in their city.

Likewise, he reiterated that during this month the 95.4% of the inhabitants of Fresnillo surveyed declared feeling unsafe living in the city. It is important to note that this figure represents a decrease of one percentage point compared to the previous quarter, when 96.4% of the population declared themselves unsafe.

Zacatecas capital, For its part, it once again entered the top 3 of cities with the highest perception of insecurity, since it went from having 87.6% in December to 89.3%which raised it from the fifth most unsafe city to the third.

Only Naucalpan de Juárez, with 89.6%, prevents Zacatecas from being placed in the number two position as the city with the highest perception of insecurity according to the ENSU of the INEGI.

It should be noted that this situation is not new for Fresnillo and Zacatecas, but rather reflects a constant that has continued over the last two years, positioning them as the cities with the highest perception of insecurity.

It is important to note that ENSU is a program that offers data on how the population perceives public safety in their city. In addition, it generates information for making public policy decisions regarding security.

This survey is focused on 90 cities of interest, of which, this March 2024, 61.0% of the population aged 18 and over said they felt unsafe.
