THE FDA (Food and Drug Administration)the United States health regulatory agency, forbade this Thursday (June 23, 2022) the Juul Labs to market electronic cigarettes in the country. According to the decision, the company did not provide sufficient data on potentially harmful chemicals contained in the product.
Juul said it will appeal the decision. On Tuesday (June 21), the regulatory agency had announced a target for reduce nicotine levels in traditional cigarettes. The ban on Juul Labs cigarettes was already expected in the country.
Juul Labs was awaiting authorization for the sale of the “vapes” in the country since the FDA Restricted Allowed Flavors in 2020 to contain the popularization of use among minors.
The company that makes the e-cigarette came under investigation in 2018 because of its marketing service. At the time, ads showed the vape using young, attractive models, and flavors like fresh cucumber and cream.
In the same year, the FDA announced a crackdown on the sale of e-cigarettes, including Juul’s, to those under 21.
In October 2021, the FDA allowed the marketing of 3 products from Reynolds American, the company responsible for the Vuse Solo electronic cigarette. At the time, the opinion on the Juul Labs request was postponed. The application sent to the agency requested authorization for menthol and tobacco flavors.

In Brazil, Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) prohibits the importation, commercialization and advertising of “vapes” since 2009. In April, a technical group from the agency suggested that the restriction be maintained and that a possible release, in addition to “technically unfeasible“, It is “potentially harmful to public health”.
