Through a statement on Deadline, the filmmaker gave the news to all the fans of the film. While he did not explain the reasons behind this decision, he did give thanks for the opportunity to have been a part of the franchise for so many years.

“With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of Fast X, while continuing on the project as producer. For 10 years and five movies, we’ve been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases,” he recounted.
“On a personal note, as the son of Asian immigrants, I am proud to help build the most diverse franchise in film history. I will forever be grateful to the incredible cast, crew, and studio for their support and for welcoming me into the Fast family.”

After this, the executives of Universal Pictures assured that the production will go through a small pause until deciding how the recordings will continue. Now it only remains to wait for an update on the project that names the new filmmaker in charge.
