Since 2018, Amazon has accepted the flirt of the physical world and has established brick-and-mortar stores to sell books and other products, today with more than 40 Amazon Go’s in the US and UK. In 2022, flirting will
even further, with the opening of the first Amazon Style, a 2,700 m2 physical clothing store in a mall in Los Angeles. According to research, 85% of people in the US continue to buy clothes in stores, they want to touch, try on.
Amazon wants some of that slice. The buyer goes to the location, opens the Amazon Shopping app and walks around the store. As soon as he finds a piece he likes, he scans the QR code and can see sizes, colors, reviews from other customers and, decided, clicks once more to “send” the item to the fitting room. That’s without any humans asking if they want a little help. Amazon says it offers more sizes than a store of the same size, as well as twice as many styles, without having to dig and dig around in racks.
It also says that it uses machine learning to quickly understand the customer and offer more options. Now it’s time to see how the experiment goes in practice.
