Years have passed but the mystery behind a Far Cry 2 character has been revealed.
Far Cry 2 is one of those titles that, despite the past years, remains a point of reference in the FPS landscape. Ubisoft has worked extensively on the franchise, coming to date with Far Cry 6, but fans have reserved a special place regarding the second chapter.
In particular, one character, “The Jackal”, is one of the elements emphasized by Far Cry 2, which has become even more important in further sequels. This is a persistent presence for the player, who seems untouchable at the start of the game. A character who appears to remind players that he is witnessing their movements. The Jackal is a legendary arms dealer, feared by all and the main mission is to assassinate him.
Now, a theory that has been around for years is that the Jackal is actually the protagonist of the original game, Jack Carver. Well, thanks to the director of Far Cry 2 Clint Hocking it is no longer a theory. “The Jackal is actually supposed to be Jack Carver from the original Far Cry“Hocking told IGN in an interview.”Because Jack Carver in the original Far Cry was a kind of elusive con man, like a smuggler, an arms dealer who ends up on this island with this madness reminiscent of Dr. Moreau’s Island“explained Hocking.”The idea was that this was just him, like 10 years later or something like that, after seeing everything he saw on this island. Here he improved his smuggling game a bit and got involved in this conflict, but he also lived a lot more and saw a lot of messed up stuff.“.
Speaking of the character’s role in the game and how this archetype would be used in the series, Hocking explains: “It’s really important to the game, it took a while to give the player a high level goal. In hindsight we could have gone much further by bringing that narrative into the world, part of that characterization into the world. It was all very new to us and we were trying to do our best with what we had available“.
The game itself did not provide any concrete evidence that the Jackal was Jack Carver, although dataminers noted that the texture files related to the character model were labeled “jackcarver”. But now comes the confirmation and right from Ubisoft.
