The family of Diego Maradona has called on the authorities of Buenos Aires to house the remains of the former Argentine football star in a mausoleum. The request was made on the day Maradona had passed away a year.
It was one of the star’s last wishes, according to the family. A place where the fans can commemorate him. “It has to be a place on the edge of the river and close to nature. That’s how he wanted it. Let this be the day when we begin to shape this initiative.”
The authorities have not yet responded. On Thursday, fans worldwide commemorated the one year anniversary of Maradona’s death.
Statue
A statue of Diego Maradona was unveiled this afternoon at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the home of Napoli. The ribbon cutting took place in the presence of Diego Armando Maradona Junior and old teammates of the club icon, among others. Maradona became national champion twice (1987 and 1990) with Napoli.
There was also a large group of Boca Juniors fans in attendance at the unveiling. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis placed a flower arrangement at the memorial on Thursday morning, which contained many flowers, shirts and images of Maradona.
Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60.
