A Fallout 2 is currently in production under the name Project Arroyo, with a team of over one hundred people: For reference, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 team is made up of around 100 people.
Furthermore, it seems that the classic RPG is doing “rapid progress“. This remake is made with the Fallout 4 engine and will be in first person, it will not take up the old RPG style with isometric view of the original.
What to expect from the Fallout 2 remake
Project lead Damion Daponte spoke about Project Arroyo’s progress in an interview with The Gamer. “I am of the idea of doing like Enderal: Forgotten Stories (a Skyrim mod with a similar goal) and put it on Steam“, says Daponte, “It’s a platform that everyone has. It’s easier to access, update and install. It’s just more efficient.”
The team working on Project Arroyo also wants to make sure everything is in order avoid legal problems. That’s because Project Arroyo uses Fallout 4’s creation engine to reimagine Fallout 2 in Bethesda’s first-person style. “We should define all the specifics with [Steam], make sure you need to have Fallout 2, Fallout 4 and all of its downloadable content to get it, and make sure there are no legal issues. But we’ll see, we’re still evaluating. Personally I lean towards [una pubblicazione su] Steam”.
Daponte also discussed whether this could mean we’ll see Project Arroyo on Steam Decks: “Maybe, we’ll see. I don’t even know if mods work well on Steam Deck, to be honest. I’d have to ask my friends.”
From this project we can also expect to use many graphic elements taken directly from Fallout: New Vegas. There will also be Power Armor and a complete and original dubbing for each character. All the music will be recreated so as not to have any copyright issues.
For the moment there is no release date.
