In crisis, Facebook plans a brand repositioning as early as next week. Mark Zuckerberg’s company will change its name with a focus on the metaverse, which should be announced on the 28th, at the company’s annual conference. Information is from The Verge website.
The new name is believed to be linked to Horizon, a new product introduced in August that consists of a virtual world accessed via the Oculus platform. Facebook must bet on augmented and virtual reality technologies to be more than a social network.

Although Facebook hides it, it is possible to understand the metaverse as a large project that unites concepts of Augmented Reality (AR), a technology that allows you to superimpose virtual elements on the vision of reality, and Virtual Reality (VR), which allows an immersion in a world built virtually, similar to Second Life.
The metaverse project was announced by Zuckerberg in July this year: “We will transition people who see us as a social networking company to seeing us as a metaverse company,” he told The Verge.
For this, Facebook recently announced the creation of more than 10,000 job openings in Europe, in addition to earmarking US$ 10 million to encourage creators and programmers to create the virtual reality project.
Facebook faces serious accusations from Frances Haugen, a former executive who accuses the company of spreading hate speech and false news to increase its profit margin. Haugen testified in the US Congress against Facebook, whose shares have dropped more than 12% since then, according to CNN International.
In this sense, the “rebranding” also seeks to reverse the decline in credibility and reputation of the technology giant, which also owns WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
Facebook was also sentenced by the US courts to pay $14 million for denying work to US citizens – the company reportedly reserved the vacancies for immigrants with temporary work visas in 2018 and 2019, according to CNN.
