Facebook announced that its platform Spark AR for augmented reality has been used for over 700 million people, and that many are on the way Announcements linked to the concept of metaverse and more.
We know that Facebook will invest at least 10 billion in the metaverse project in a year, and so will augmented reality is linked to this concept. This is why the company has developed even more sophisticated new AR experiences, which use “localization services, virtual objects and new input models”.
Geolocated experiences for public spaces: new capabilities that allow for position-related effects, in a cohesive and long-lasting experience, using multiple AR activation points.
For example, imagine a treasure hunt in a theme park or a guided tour of monuments in a city center. Currently in testing with the Spark Partner Network and select brands, including Sanrio in Japan, opening to all creators in 2022.
Body Tracking and Hand Tracking: new capabilities to enable funnier self-expressions, through AR effects. Coming in November.
Virtual Objects Pipeline: Introducing a new pipeline in Spark AR Studio, with the ability to create and place 3D objects in the real world that can include text, characters, GIFs, stickers, and more.
To ensure realistic performance, this will also include underlying technical capabilities such as depth, occlusion and improved plane tracking. This will be available in closed beta later in the year and will arrive for everyone in 2022.
Virtual objects are fundamental for the future of AR and for continuity in the metaverse. Built on Spark AR, these objects will be versatile and scalable across different surfaces and use cases such as commerce and shopping, with virtual proofs and product previews.
