At 51 years old, Fabiola Martínez, known for her role as a model and ex-wife of Bertín Osborne, has decided to open her heart like she had never done before. His first book, ‘When silence is not an option’, not only marks a new chapter in his life, but also reveals a part of his past that had been kept in the shadows for decades: sexual abuse that he suffered during his childhood.
The Venezuelan, born in Maracaibo into a humble family, uses the more than 200 pages of her work to share a testimony that she describes as necessary and liberating. «I was a girl who was robbed of her childhood, who had to learn to be strong too soon. “I kept a secret a drama that filled me with pain and marked me forever,” he confesses in the book, whose official launch is scheduled for February 2025, although it is already available for pre-sale on platforms such as The Book House.
In her recent appearance at the Kike Osborne Foundation’s Dona2 2024 awards, Fabiola spoke about the long and arduous process that she has undertaken to reconcile with herself. «I have been working with therapy with Marian Rojas, who is wonderful. “She has a lot of experience with these types of problems and is helping me a lot,” commented the author, who has been under the guidance of the renowned psychologist for almost a year.
Healing, however, has not been an easy path. According to Martínez, traumas of this type leave deep footprints in identity and self-concept. «What a trauma like this does is that it distances you from yourself, it dissociates you. You disconnect from the girl, from the teenager. The most complicated process now is hug that girl againreconcile and heal,” he declared to the media.
Fabiola also wanted to take advantage of the platform of her book to raise awareness about a problem that, unfortunately, affects millions of minors in the world. «One in four girls suffers sexual abuse and one in six boys as well. And those children are not abused by the same person. “There are many abusers,” he denounced forcefully.
With this brave testimony, the model hopes not only to heal her own wounds, but also inspire other people who may be going through similar situations to break the silence and seek help. When silence is not an option it is, in Fabiola’s words, “a cry for hope” and an invitation to transform pain into strength.
The publication of the book promises to be a turning point not only in the life of Fabiola Martínez, but also in that of those who identify with her experience and find in her words a path to healing.
