He turns 15 today, son of the 2-time F1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, whose name he bears, announces that he will compete with the Dutch team Van Amersfoort Racing in Formula 4.
As might be expected, Emerson, who prefers Emmo Jr., was introduced to the world of racing and started a karting career very early on. During this time, Fittipaldi drew attention by winning the Sao Paulo State Championship at age 7, only to follow up with an impressive list of achievements.
Emmo Jr. took the first steps of his career in international competitions, competing on circuits and in championships in Latin America, the United States and Canada. As a member of the Sauber Academy, Alfa Romeo’s F1 junior program, the young Brazilian moved to European circuits soon after finishing his karting career in favor of Formula.
Emmo Jr. switched to single-seaters last year, still 14 years old, entering the Danish F4 championship, which allows the participation of drivers under 15 years old. He behaved well from the start, securing a third place in the overall championship standings, valid for P2 in the F4 standings (The Danish championship is divided into F4 and F5).
In the Danish championship the young Brazilian immediately made an excellent impression by earning 2 finals in P2 during the first race date. At the end of the season, Fittipaldi finished in the top 5 in all races except one, he reached the podium 15 times, obtaining 3 victories.
“Despite his young age, Emmo Jr. has already racked up impressive results”Comments Rob Niessink, CEO of VAR. Go on: “As the son of a 2-time F1 World Champion, it’s no wonder that Emerson reads and writes motorsport. He is a bright, intelligent and talented young man naturally inclined to racing, which is not often seen. Of course, he has several challenges ahead of him. He is young and has a lot to learn, but we have full confidence in his ability to work with the team and make progress. Emerson has communication skills beyond his age, which will help him move forward. We are proud to have the opportunity to guide him on his path to level up and we will offer him our full support in every way, on and off the track! “
The Formula 4 series is the path designated by the FIA for young talents to move from karting to the world of single-seater racing. It is, of course, the perfect entry point
to motorsport and has seen an extensive roster of successful drivers pass through its ranks. 2022 marks a new era for F4, with the introduction of the second generation Tatuus. The F4 FIA series are the latest to adopt the HALO system, aligning with all other FIA categories on the “Road to F1”.
The young Fittipaldi is looking forward to starting the season. His comment: “I had a great debut in F4 last year. A difficult year, there was a lot to learn, but I loved every minute of racing in the car! I’ve spent the winter preparing myself, both mentally and physically, and I feel more than ready to start the season. I will face tough competition this year, I realize that, but the challenge motivates me, so I can’t wait to get started! Starting the season with Van Amersfoort Racing gives me even more confidence. I spent a lot of time with the team, getting ready with the simulator, getting to know the team and so on. I felt welcome from the very first moments. I find myself perfectly in their passion and dedication to success, I’m more than ready to start! “
