After winning the title reserved for teams for the first time last season, it is already time for the Trident team to think about the 2022 championship. The team headed by Giacomo Ricci today announced the name of the first driver who will be part of the line-up for F3: Jonny Edgar.
The seventeen-year-old Englishman stood out in 2020, when he managed to get his hands on the German Formula 4 championship by overcoming Jak Crawford, while in 2021 he struggled more than expected in Formula 3 also thanks to a non-top-level team like Carlin.
However, Edgar’s talent was able to be admired especially in the opening stages of the season and it did not escape the Trident team who decided to trust the Englishman for his second year in Formula 3.
“Jonny Edgar is a driver we followed very closely in the Formula 3 championship last year,” said team owner Maurizio Salvadori. “Although he did not obtain particular results, the English driver impressed us favorably thanks to his qualities. I am therefore very happy that Jonny will be part of the Team Trident line-up in 2022. I am sure that he will compete in a top championship and will be a great protagonist of the season ”.
“Edgar took to the track in a Team Trident car in the post-season tests held last November in Valencia where we were able to appreciate his talent behind the wheel, his mature behavior and his impeccable professionalism”.
Huge satisfaction for Edgar, aware that he can finally focus on a team capable of supporting him technically: “I am extremely happy to be able to race for Trident Motorsport in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship, an extremely professional team that will certainly give me the opportunity to compete in the top positions of the 2022 championship “.
Another driver from the Red Bull nursery who will compete in the next Formula 3 season is Isack Hadjar. The Algerian franc, born in 2004, impressed last year in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, obtaining two victories, including the one he scored clearly in Monaco, and then closed the championship in fifth position.
Hadjar’s growth has not escaped the Red Bull observers who have decided to put him under their protective wing once the championship has begun. The move to Formula 3 with Hitech GP, after the excellent conditions of 2021, was the most obvious choice.
“I am really happy to be racing with Hitech for a full season in FIA F3 and Formula Regional Asia,” said Hadjar. “I am thrilled to see what we will be able to achieve together and to work with a new team as I take my career one step further.”
“There will be a lot to assimilate and a lot to learn, but I’m ready for the challenge! I would like to say thank you to Red Bull for their support.”
