Formula 3 is tinged with pink. The organizers of the cadet series announced today the presence of 4 girls who will compete with the Dallara of the third category during a test session that will take place on 9 and 10 November on the Magny Cours track.
Two girls are from the W Series, while two more are part of the Iron Dames program. The first are Nerea Marti and Irina Sidorkova, while the second two are Maya Weug and Doriane Pin. Weug is the best known name having been selected at the end of the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars program to enter the Ferrari Driver Academy and is currently involved in Italian Formula 4.
The will of the organizers of Formula 3 is to create a bridge between the two categories and thus facilitate the passage of the best members of the fair sex in the most important series.
It must be said, however, that in the past both in Formula 3 and in Formula 2 some girls had had the opportunity to compete for entire seasons. Leaving aside the not very incisive appearance of Carmen Jorda, the one who had performed well in GP3 was Tatiana Calderon, then promoted to Formula 2 with Arden, while Sophia Floersch in 2020 was not able to win even a point at the wheel of the Campos car Racing.

Bruno Michel explained the motivation for this choice: “Diversity is a very important topic for us. Our desire is to ensure that more and more women join our league. We were very happy to have Tatiana Calderon and Sophia Floersch on our grills. We hope that this test is the first step to make the road to Formula 1 easier for a woman driver ”.
“One way to achieve this is to create connections between our categories, which are closest to F1, and racing programs that promote female drivers with the ultimate goal of preparing them for the pinnacle of motorsport.”
“With this test, we want Nerea and Irina to familiarize themselves with the F3, with the car and with the working methodology. It will not be about looking for performance, but about understanding the needs of the category”.
“We have also decided to offer two girls an F3 test from the Iron Dames program which is supported by both the FIA and the Ferrari Driver Academy. Maya and Doriane are both very young and it is important for us to give them this opportunity. They will have the chance to try. the car at Magny-Cours and we hope it is a first step in the right direction ”.
