Season 2022 Formula 3 will still see the starting blocks Juan Manuel Correa, who will compete in the next championship again at the wheel of the ART Grand Prix. The US driver, born in Ecuador, was in fact confirmed by the French team, with whom the 22-year-old returned to compete last season after the serious accident that occurred in Spa-Francorchamps in 2019. In this way, Correa will therefore have the great opportunity to be able to further improve the overall results achieved in 2021, equal to a 21st place in the drivers’ standings and 11 total points conquered. Among these, a good part came from the sixth place obtained at the end of Race-1 in the team’s home stage, with a 6th place synonymous with the best result of the season.
The main objective for the driver from Quito is therefore to be able to increase the performances of the past season, as stated by the person concerned, who commented on the official nature of his stay in F3 with the transalpine team: “I am very happy to stay another year with ART Grand Prix to continue on the progress of our first season together – he has declared – the 2021 season was not easy for me, due to the work done on the sports side in addition to the rehabilitation for the recovery of my legs. I feel like next year could be an opportunity for me to start at a much higher level, and go back to where I can be. I want to thank ART and my partners very much for their continued support. I think it will be a good year “. Correa, who returned to Formula 3 in 2021, was the victim of a frightening accident during Race-1 in Belgium in 2019, when he was violently hit by Anthoine Hubert at the Eau Rouge-Raidillon corner. In the impact, he sustained the fracture of both lower limbs, as well as a crack in a vertebra. At the same time, Hubert tragically lost his life after being transported to the hospital.
The confirmation of the driver born in 1999 was also enthusiastically welcomed by the team principal Sebastien Philippe, who thus expressed his opinion on the continuation of Correa’s career with the French team: “Juan Manuel has provided positive feedback and fits perfectly into the team – he added – making progress after losing a year to that pivotal event in his career. His fortitude has allowed him to regain joy behind the wheel, and to fight regularly in the top 10. In 2022, with the help of ART Grand Prix, he will be eager to take his goals one step further, to be even closer to the leaders and to participate in the team’s ambition to win both championships ”.
