The line up of the Carlin team continues to take shape in Formula 3. After the announcement of the hiring of Zak O’Sullivan, who has also joined the Williams Academy, the English team has unveiled the name of the second driver who will compete for the season 2022: Brad Benavides.
For the 20-year-old born in Florida, the environment of the Carlin team is not new. Benavides, in fact, already had the opportunity to wear the colors of the British team last year when he left the Formula Regional European championship in the middle of the season to move to the Euroformula Open.
In Valencia, on the occasion of the tests at the end of the year, Benavides raced the first and third day of testing, always at the wheel of a Carlin team car, leaving a good impression on the team leaders.
“I’ve always been a huge racing fan and now I have an incredible opportunity in my hands. At the same time, I feel like my most important goals are as close as ever. I will do my best this season to make sure it is a year to be proud of ”.
Trevor Carlin said encouraging words for the newcomer: “Brad is still a young driver at the start of his career. Taking this step into Formula 3 in his second year of racing in Europe will be challenging, but he has a fantastic attitude both inside and outside the car ”.
“We are delighted that he has chosen to stay with us for this new chapter of his career and we look forward to starting testing in Bahrain next month.”
Drivers and Formula 3 teams will be on the Sakhir track from 2 to 4 March to compete in the first seasonal test session in anticipation of the start of the championship which will take place, again on the same circuit, over the weekend from 18 to 20 March.
