There Sprint Race of the Bahrain GP saw the team back on the top step of the podium Tridentbrought back to success by the young Dutchman Richard Verschoor five years after the last triumph. The Italian team, in fact, was not the first to cross the finish line in Formula 2 from the 2016 Malaysian GP, when it was Luca Ghiotto who raised the winner’s trophy in the then GP2. Verschoor, in turn author of the second career victory in F2, was thus the first to close in front of everyone at the inaugural appointment of the 2022 season, also synonymous with the first Sprint Race of the championship, revolutionized this year in its new format.
Today, on the eve of the second stage in Jeddah, the 2016 Spanish Formula 4 champion underlined his satisfaction with the result in Bahrain, considered as an extra motivation for the next race: “I still believe that it would have been possible to win at Sakhir even if we hadn’t taken the lead immediately at the start – explained Verschoor – but, the way things went, I was able to manage the pace throughout the rest of the race. Conversely, we had a problem with the car in the Feature Race, so much so that I was forced to retire: it was a real shame, especially after the completely different outcome of the day before. About that, I’ve learned that hard work always pays off. I think that the efforts made with the team are the key to doing well. Now I’m really looking forward to driving to Jeddah – he added – even if it will be difficult for me. I leave with the typical disadvantage of all those who have never been to this circuit, since in 2021 it was the only round I had lost. We will learn all this weekend, starting with free practice. From there, we’ll see what happens. “
