A few days after the recent news of Jake Hughes joining the team Van Amersfoort, the same Dutch team has definitively completed its line-up in view of the next Formula 2 championship: for 2022, the British driver will in fact find the Belgian as his teammate Amaury Cordeel, a rookie in the category just like his new team. In this way, the 19-year-old will thus make the leap in quality after a single season in Formula 3 at the wheel of the Campos, which ended without the conquest of any points and with an 11th place in Austria as the best result of the season.
While waiting to face the first test on the calendar, scheduled for March 19 in Bahrain, Cordeel expressed all the emotions inherent in the imminent approach to the preparatory F1 series: “I am extremely excited to take this step towards F2 – he has declared – I got to know the car during post-season testing in Abu Dhabi, and it was impressive. The increase in power over the F3 is very noticeable, but I still felt comfortable behind the wheel. I am well aware that next season will be challenging, and I will have to learn many aspects very quickly. However, having Van Amersfoort Racing as a team you can count on is a guarantee. I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me, and I’m looking forward to being part of their FIA F2 debut. The level of dedication and professionalism shown during the test at Yas Marina was sensational, and I will use what I learned from F3 to be able to express myself at my best, also counting on the support of the entire team. I spent the off-season – he concluded – with the aim of achieving optimal shape, both physically and mentally, not to mention the endless hours I spent in the simulator. I feel ready ”.

Cordeel’s signing with Van Amersfoort also reduced the number of teams that have not yet completed their line-up, all just under two months from the start of the season: in addition toART Grand Prix, which at the moment has made only Theo Pourchaire official, also missing the appeal of the “suits” Campos, Charouz and Trident.
