F2 / Monza, Feature Race: first success of the season for Daruvala

Less than twenty-four hours after Felipe Drugovich’s championship victory, the Monza welcomed the third to last act of the Formula 2 season, characterized by numerous accidents and withdrawals. Of the 22 participating pilots, only 14 saw the checkered flag, with ben two Safety Cars intervened and one momentary suspension of the race.

In the end, the Indian from Prema won Jehan Daruvala, for the first time on the top step of the podium in this championship. The 23-year-old, who returned to the pits before the red flag was displayed, thus gained the advantage at the restart, overtaking first Marino Sato and then Richard Verschoor, thus establishing his third victory in the category and his second consecutive in the Monza round, when closed ahead of everyone in the 2021 Sprint Race.

A race yet to be forgotten for Theo Pourchaire who, after having definitively lost the hopes of a comeback in the standings on Drugovich – 7th today – was forced to raise the white flag immediately on lap 1, remaining involved in a accident with Boschung at the entrance to the Big Curve. Soon after, too Doohan and Sargeant they were the protagonists of a less violent contact at the Variant of the Canal, but still enough to end the race of both. With the immediate entry of the Safety Car, the safety car returned shortly after the restart due to an impact against the safety barriers. Calan Williams at the Ascari variant, which forced the Race Direction to stop the race. With the second and definitive restart, Daruvala thus maintained the virtual leadership with the 3rd place, becoming definitively the leader after the pit stop of Sato and Verschoor, finishing in front of Frederik Vesti and Ayumu Iwasa. After this race, F2 postpones the appointment to the weekend of November 20 in Yas Marina, where the fate of the constructors’ championship will be decided.
