At the end of the World Council held today, the calendar for the 2022 Formula 2 season was made official, which will see the cadet category drivers in 14 appointments.
As is known, after this year’s disappointing experiment with the distorted competition format and endless pauses between one appointment and another, the organizers of the series have wisely decided to take a step back and return to the format used until 2020.
The races scheduled in each weekend will be two, Sprint and Feature Race, and the starting grid of the first will be determined by reversing the order of the top ten in qualifying.
The season will start on March 20 in Sakhir, as will Formula 1, and then continue a week later in Jeddah and land in Europe on April 24 on the splendid Imola track.
After a month’s break, the Formula 2 drivers will be back on track on 22 May to compete in the Barcelona round and a week later to tackle the treacherous Monte Carlo circuit.
Only one appointment in June, that of Baku, while in July there will be 3 races scheduled. It starts the first weekend of the month with Silverstone and then moves to Spielberg the following week and finally to Budapest before the summer break.
Spa-Francorchamps is finally back on the calendar at the end of August, while for the first time the F2 will stop in Zandvoort on 4 September. The following week will take place in Monza and at the end of the month in Russia on the Sochi track. Unfortunately we will have to wait until November 20 for the season finale of Yas Marina, but the 2022 calendar is certainly more balanced and exciting than the one proposed for 2021.
Formula 3 also announced today the calendar for next season. Important news is the start of the championship from Bahrain and the Imola appointment which will guarantee the Italian public a very pleasant weekend given the presence of F1 and F2.
In May it will take place in Barcelona, while in July there will be 3 races with double wins from Silverstone and Spielberg and the appointment in Budapest at the end of the month.
In August, after the summer break, we are back on track for 3 consecutive appointments. The first will be that of Spa-Francorchamps followed by Zandvoort on 4 September and Monza which will thus become the last round of the season.
