The two Formula 1 cadet series have announced a new scoring system, which however is still subject to approval by the FIA World Council, after they also recently changed the format of their race weekends.
From next season, F2 and F3 will return to play only two races per weekend, unlike the three this year, and as a consequence the scores have also been changed.
The biggest change concerns the points of the sprint race, although the top eight will continue to score points in F2, even if they will be awarded less with a system of 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. . This season, however, 15 points were awarded to the winner, in a system that always rewarded the top eight.
For F3, the top 10 will continue to score points, but the system foresees 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
However, there remains a link with this season, which is the inversion of the grid for the sprint race, for the top 10 for the F2 and for the top 12 for the F3. The qualifying results will then form the grid for Sunday races.
However, the driver who wins the pole position will only be awarded two points and no longer four as this year. Then there remains the point for the driver who gets the fastest lap in the race, as long as he is among the top ten classified in the race.
The scoring system for the Sunday race remains unchanged compared to this year, with the structure 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1, identical to that of Formula 1.
As a result of these changes, over a weekend a rider will be able to score a maximum of 39 points next year.
Recently, both series have also disclosed their calendars for the 2022 season. The F2 will compete in 14 events, for a total of 28 races, also stopping at tracks that were not present in the 2021 calendar such as Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, Red Bull Ring, Zandvoort, Hungaroring and Barcelona.
On the other hand, nine appointments have been set for Formula 3, including Imola and Monza.
