The teams have decided to react hard-nosed: some proposals that Liberty has launched for next year have been rejected by the teams.
Among the ideas that Ross Brawn, F1 sporting director, had brought to the fore was that the teams should have made the cars available to the media on Friday morning already in the configuration with which they would have faced the race weekend, to explain which would have been the technical innovations introduced.
The intention of the championship promoters was to make the new technical solutions resulting from huge investments more understandable to the general public, trying to circumvent the maniacal confidentiality of the teams who, on the contrary, try to keep the secret as long as possible.
The “show and tell” session has already disappeared from the 2022 radars: at most the teams will issue a statement in which they will mention the new parts that the cars will adopt on the track.
But the most energetic action of the teams, according to AMUS, was in sabotaging that the parc fermé was already kicking off at the start of the event, even before the F1 cars had entered the track. We remind you that next year the GPs will shorten by one day because the checks will take place on Friday morning and the two free practice sessions (when there is no Sprint Qualifying) will both be held in the afternoon.
The technicians, therefore, will have the right to freely modify the cars until the start of qualifying exactly as happens today, without upsetting a working method that has worked so far. The closed park was introduced in 2003 with the aim of reducing costs and limiting the preparation of cars designed for qualification.
If that concept could be shared, the opening to the generalized closed park would have made the decision of the machines to the simulator decisive, taking away the value of the free trials if not to try to set up with the chosen solutions.
Fortunately, this attempt to disintegrate the DNA of F1 was stopped by the teams and some odd ideas are back in the drawer, like the evil thought to reverse the grid in the race on Saturday. We are experiencing one of the most beautiful seasons in the history of GPs, yet there is the anxiety of wanting to change everything, even what works …
