After the long winter, the single-seaters of Formula 1 they finally hit the track all together this one morning in the first session of the Bahrain tests. The teams will have only three days available to prepare for the 2023 season, and will therefore be forced to expose themselves more than usual during these tests, with the aim of arriving at the Sakhir race on 5 March in the best possible conditions.
It was a quiet morning, marked by only one red flag interruption for Felipe Drugovich (Aston Martin), who was struggling with a technical failure. The Brazilian replaced Lance Stroll, who is struggling with an arm injury he picked up in recent days and which will prevent him from riding in these three days of testing.
The fastest was the two-time world champion Max Verstappen, on Red Bull, and preceded the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz by just under three tenths. Third place for Alexander Albon’s Williams, seven tenths behind the leader. Fifth position for George Russell’s Mercedes.

The podium of the riders with the most laps completed is made up of the three fastest, in reverse order, with Albon at 74, followed by Sainz at 72 and Verstappen at 71. Rear light Felipe Drugovich at 40, who pays the stop after a few minutes.
