There is no agreement on the Sprint Race. The F1 promoter had asked that Saturday’s races be increased to six in the 2022 season, but especially the top teams opposed asking for an increase in spending on the budget cap which according to some would have reached 5 million dollars, while it had been proposed compensation of $ 2.65 million.
Proposal that the other teams do not like at all: McLaren and six other teams reject the idea that the purse strings can be opened, arguing that there would be an attempt by the greats to maintain an advantage over the smaller teams.
According to the German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport there would have been a proposal to keep only three sprint races in the 2022 calendar, but the issue will be definitively discussed in the F1 Commission on February 14th and it is not to be excluded that a different agreement will be reached. knowing that without the support of Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari, there also remains the possibility that F1 will have to give up the idea of sprint races that were already planned in Bahrain and then in Imola, Canada, Austria, Holland and Brazil.
In the F1 seasonal budget he would have foreseen the greater income deriving from the weekends with the double race and the eventual absence would weigh on the management of a championship that hopes to find a certain normality in 2022.
For Michael Schmidt, the situation should be simpler for 2023, as the favorable vote of six teams will be enough to get the calendar approved with six Sprint Races next year.
The situation seems to have come to a standstill, but according to the rumors of a top team there is still plenty of time to find a valid solution …
