In a race that started under the worst auspices, with Carlos Sainz who suffered a lot from the start with Medium tires and a Charles Leclerc called to a comeback after yesterday’s terrible qualifying due to a crack in the chassis of his SF21, Ferrari returns home from Losail with a tally of points higher than that collected by McLaren and thus managed to stretch further on the Woking team as regards the fight for third place in the Constructors’ World Championship.
As mentioned, Carlos Sainz Jr. had to face a race far from what is usually required of a Formula 1 driver. He started with a set of medium tires, therefore with less grip than the drivers who mounted the soft. In addition, the set assembled at the start was used. This only made the situation worse.
Carlos, however, managed his race well, although he was forced to manage his tires for almost all of the 57 laps. The idea of Ferrari was in fact to keep the tires and not take any chances whatsoever. In Losail the front left, the one in support, was the tire put under the most stress. Ferrari, to avoid trouble, told Sainz to use caution and manage as much as possible.

“With the medium tires the start was more difficult,” Carlos Sainz told Sky Sport. “The first two corners, but also the start … There was less grip. It cost us a little, but it was the plan studied yesterday. Then it was a used media, not a new one. But that’s the way it is.”
“A difficult start, then we were conservative with the tires. We were afraid that something could happen to the front tires, we were very conservative but in the end we managed to bring home some points. Maybe McLaren were more aggressive, too bad, but it’s went like this “.
The strategy decided by Ferrari was valid not only for medium tires, but also for Hard compounds. The goal was to avoid having punctures as happened to McLaren, AlphaTauri, Mercedes and Williams.
For Sainz a real shame, because Ferrari could have guaranteed much better performances than those shown in the race. “Even with the hard conditions I was conservative, because we were afraid of not getting to the end. Then the team told me they could push and we managed to get behind Stroll very quickly.”
“We’ll see from the analyzes we will do after the race, maybe we could have pushed a little more. But it’s true that others were more aggressive but paid for it. For me, however, it was a boring race, because I couldn’t I don’t want to do a race like this. And to say that the car had a good pace. We preferred to be conservative to conserve the tires “, concluded the Ferrari driver from Madrid.
