Among the topics of interest at the Canadian GP are brakes. Racing Bulls, which from Imola decided to switch to Brembo discs following the direction taken by Red Bull at the behest of Max Verstappen, has strengthened the braking system for the treacherous Montreal track.
In the drawings of Giorgio Piola it is possible to observe the layout that the Faenza team decided on for the trip to North America: the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, together with the Singapore track (for very different reasons) falls into the category of the most demanding tracks.
According to Brembo technicians on a scale of 1 to 5, Montreal deserves a difficulty index of 4; this is because 6 of the 7 braking sections fall into the Hard category due to the effort required from the braking system. For 5 of these the riders are subjected to more than 5 G of deceleration and exert a load on the brake pedal of more than 155 kg. The most selective braking is that of Turn 13.

Even if high speeds allow good heat dissipation from the brakes, in Canada it is still very important to check the temperature of discs, calipers and pads, given that wear is high. Racing Bulls, for example, has paid particular attention to solutions that increase the heat exchange surface with the air, aiming for calipers with pillars, i.e. the curious pegs.
