Racing Bulls is getting a makeover. It’s not a permanent thing, but at this weekend’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the Faenza-based team will be sporting a new livery.
And it will be a special livery, different from the usual ones, because it will be worn as if it were real… jeans. The VCARB 01 of Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda will be recognizable by a denim look.
Light jeans that takes on various shades, increasingly darker, starting from the nose and reaching the cockpit. All embellished by the reproduction of ochre stitching, the same that we can note on many models of jeans that we wear every day.
The most interesting part, however, is on the sides. It is there that the traditional livery and the new one merge into a single piece and they do it in the most intuitive, but certainly ideal, way possible. That is, using a hinge that opens between the side panels and the engine hood.

The zipper follows the line of the side bazookas, then connects with the bellies at the attachment of the two body parts. Nice details on the colored part in jeans that reproduce tears and worn parts to make the jeans effect even more realistic.
The zipper returns to Formula 1 after several years. The most famous one – at least in the last 30 years – comes from the uncompetitive but certainly original BAR 001. Also on that occasion the zipper was used to unite two different liveries, created for the two main sponsors of the American team (555 and Lucky Strike) not being able to diversify them entirely on the cars of Jacques Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta.
The livery was created to pay homage to HUGO, one of the sponsors of the Austrian-Italian team. Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda will wear suits that will match the livery throughout the Singapore weekend.
“We’ve seen fashion brands join forces with F1 teams and drivers over the years, especially in terms of outfits, but we’ve never seen any of them take this step to fully immerse themselves on the track as well,” said Daniel Ricciardo. “We’re really upping the ante and leading the way, showing that there’s still a lot for brands to explore. I think we’ll definitely open the eyes of these fashion houses and see more fashion-inspired liveries come to life.”
Yuki Tsunoda said: “Fashion is one of my passions, so to see our team collaborate in such a unique way, beyond our team kit and our everyday HUGO outfits, is really cool, especially because no one else has done it before. Doing something like this is a real reflection of our identity and creativity; at VCARB we try to speak to fans across all walks of life: art, music, fashion, so this is a real step forward in everything we strive to do as a team.”
