The start of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship is approaching, in fact Pireli this afternoon made official the compounds it will bring to the first 3 grand prix of the new season.
A few days before the start of the second and final pre-season test session, the Milanese manufacturer, the sole supplier of tires for Formula 1, has announced which compounds it will bring to Sakhir, home of the Bahrain Grand Prix; Jeddah, home of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Melbourne, home of the Australian Grand Prix.
For the first round of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix on the Sakhir track, Pirelli will bring the following compounds:
- Pirelli PZero White Hard C1
- Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C2
- Pirelli PZero Red Soft C3
These are therefore the hardest compounds in the 2022 range proposed by Pirelli. For the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah, however, Pirelli will bring these compounds:
- Pirelli PZero White Hard C2
- Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C3
- Pirelli PZero Red Soft C4
These are instead the central compounds of the 2022 range, but the most interesting choice is certainly the one made for Melbourne. On the track that will be used for the Australian Grand Prix, Pirelli has made a choice that has not been seen for some time:
- Pirelli PZero White Hard C2
- Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C3
- Pirelli PZero Red Soft C5
As you may have noticed, the compound jump is back. From C2 and C3 we move on to C5, which in Melbourne will represent the Soft. The C4s will not be taken into consideration, thus returning to choices – with the compound jump – that Pirelli never proposed in 2021.
