Three hours after the checkered flag came the final confirmation of Sergio Perez’s victory in the Singapore Grand Prix. After the award ceremony, the Red Bull driver was summoned by the Board of Stewards to be heard about the infringement he was accused of. “I explained my point of view – declared Perez before the verdict – we were in atypical conditions”.
“Article 55.10 of the FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations provides that the leader must remain within 10 car lengths of the safety car until the lights go out – confirms the FIA communication – it was admitted that while the safety car lights were still on , Sergio Perez was unable to keep within the 10 lengths of the safety car between the exit of turn 13 and turn 14 (during the tenth lap) “.
“When questioned during the hearing, Perez stated that the conditions were very wet and that it was very difficult to follow the safety car closely due to the low temperatures in the tires and brakes. Although the track was partly wet, we do not accept that the conditions were such as to make it impossible or dangerous for Perez to have maintained the necessary gap of less than 10 cars. However, we took into consideration that the rainy conditions and difficulties highlighted by Perez as extenuating circumstances for this accident and, consequently, we have established that a reprimand should be imposed ”.
Perez was instead penalized for the episode of lap 38, at the exit of turn 16. “As this was Perez’s second violation of Article 55.10 during the race, and following an explicit warning from the Director of Race, we have decided to impose a penalty of 5 seconds ”.
Having crossed the line with a margin of 7 ”595 over Leclerc, Perez remains the winner of the Singapore Grand Prix with a 2” 595 advantage over the Ferrari driver.
