No, today was not just the Ferrari F1-75’s debut day on the track. In fact, on the Silverstone track, Mercedes also made its new creation, the F1 W13 E Performance, on the track for the first time.
Mercedes has entrusted the W13 to George Russell for the first ever seasonal outing of the new Brackley weapon, which will have the task of confirming the Constructors’ title – the eighth in a row – won last season and bringing home that drivers after the lost duel from Hamilton to the last lap of the last gp of 2021.
Russell entered the track after the lunch break, with Lewis Hamilton next to the car, just outside the garage, to resume the car’s debut with his mobile phone.
The W13 was the same one presented this morning, a rather different car in some points than the one seen in the official photos released by the team a few hours earlier.

Russell rode at Silverstone with a set of Full-Wet “demo” tires, therefore in extreme wet conditions but not the same as those used in the race, as per regulations. The asphalt of the British track was made treacherous by the rain that fell during the night and the morning, with the sky above the track that does not bode well.
Also in this case, as Ferrari did, Mercedes will finish the kilometers available today and then ship the W13 to Barcelona in view of the first pre-season test session to be held at Montmelò from 23 to 25 of this month.
The second and last test will take place the following month, but in Sakhir, the same track where the first seasonal race of the 2022 World Championship will take place, on March 20.
