Last May some United States congressmen and senators had sided with Mario Andrettiafter Formula 1 had refused the entry of the Andretti team. The possibility of opening an investigationwhich was formally launched today.
Liberty Media has in fact been warned that The U.S. Department of Justice has opened an antitrust investigation into Andretti’s handling of the claim to enter the F1 world championship. The owners of Formula 1 have guaranteed their maximum collaboration and transparency.
Maffei’s words
Greg Maffeipresident and CEO of Liberty Media explained: “There is an ongoing Department of Justice investigation and we fully intend to provide all requested information. We believe that our decision, and that of F1, was in compliance with all US antitrust laws. and we have already explained in detail the reasons for the rejection of the application previously”.
