There is a Ferrari on pole at Silverstone, but surprisingly it is not that of Charles Leclerc. On an English track made treacherous by the rain that fell a few minutes before the start of qualifying, it was Carlos Sainz who prevailed for the first time in his career.
The Spaniard managed to grab the best time in 1’40”983, thus becoming the only one to go under the wall of 1’41 ”. Sainz, above all, managed to put together the lap without making mistakes as happened to both Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.
The Monegasque, in the very last attempt, made a spin with which he thwarted any possibility of putting his F1-75 in the front row.
In the end Leclerc had to settle for the third time in 1’41 ” 298, and despite the disappointment of a result that does not reflect the potential of the car and the driver, Charles immediately wanted to celebrate what his teammate had achieved.
“I’m sorry for the final result, but I’m happy for Carlos’ pole. Too bad for that last lap where I turned, I should have put it all together and I couldn’t ”.

After the day dedicated to qualifying, it is already time for Leclerc to think about the race. The gap in the standings from Max Verstappen is currently equal to 49 points and in recent days the Monegasque has admitted that in these 4 races in July, Ferrari will have to compete in the perfect weekends to relaunch the championship.
Tomorrow Leclerc will start behind both Sainz and Verstappen, but more than the starting position, the Ferrari driver admitted that it will be important to guess the strategy in order to overturn today’s result.
“Third position on the grid is still good for tomorrow’s race. I hope to be able to reassemble ”.
“The pace is there and if we play a clean race, everything will be fine. The start will be important as well as tire management. We may have one or two stop strategies and it will be interesting to see who makes one or two. We hope to make the right choice and go back where we want ”.
Before leaving the microphones, and going to the briefing with the engineers, Leclerc wanted to underline how the F1-75 is a gentle car with tires. An aspect that will be fundamental in adopting the correct strategy.
“Tire management hasn’t been a problem in the last few races, even if we haven’t been able to show it due to other problems. We hope that tomorrow is the right day ”.
