While in Singapore we are starting to get into the GP mood that will characterise the weekend in Barcelona, yesterday the second day of testing that Pirelli is carrying out in collaboration with Aston Martin ended to develop the first prototypes of the tyres that will be used in 2026 with the introduction of the new regulation intended for agile single-seaters.

Brazilian Felipe Drugovich, reserve driver for the Silverstone team, continued work on the experimental tyres with the traditional 18” rim diameter and a width and external diameter slightly smaller than the sizes currently in use. Drugovich covered 722 km on the Catalan track yesterday, bringing the total test distance to 1,392 km.

“It was a positive debut, especially because we were able to gather a lot of information that will be useful for the continuation of the development of this new product,” commented Mario Isola, Pirelli Motorsport Director. “In this very early phase it is important to try to understand the correlation between the load simulations and the actual possibility of reproducing them on the track, and the collaboration of the teams is fundamental, and for this I would like to thank Aston Martin for providing us with a modified car to allow us to carry out this test.”

“Our engineers will now analyse the data and, in parallel, continue to develop the product in view of the next test session, which will take place at the Mugello Circuit on 8 and 9 October, in collaboration with the McLaren F1 Team.”
